In 2008, ST Consultores began to explore the geographical conditions of Uruguay with a renewable energy –mostly wind power– project in mind. While there was a sustained growth in the demand for electricity and a broad consensus to modify the local energy matrix was reached, the existing technology in this sector had already made important progress regarding its learning curve.

At the beginning of 2011, wind resource assessment started in Cerro Largo department. A few years later, through the integration of local and foreign firms, the construction of a 50 MW wind farm was completed.

Within the framework of a Power Purchase Agreement with Uruguay’s National Electricity Plants and Distribution Administration (UTE for its acronym in Spanish), such wind farm feeds generated energy into the Uruguayan electricity grid.
